PETR BOROVEC PHOTOGRAPHY
Create with Love*
I am a Czech amateur photographer based in Ostrava. I was born in 1966 in the former Czechoslovakia. Back then analogue photography was a common part of life. Almost every family owned a camera. Most often it was a TLR camera Flexaret, taking black and white images of 6x6 cm on roll film. The films and gelatin silver prints were processed in the bathroom, which was turned into a temporary darkroom. This was my first contact and experience with analogue photography. My father taught me all the necessary basics of black and white photography.

Later, I looked for specialist books and bought magazines, which at that time, especially in terms of content, were of very high quality, relatively cheap and accessible. I took photographs, developed films and made gelatin silver prints in my home darkroom.

In the meantime, I got an apprenticeship, graduated, completed the compulsory two-year basic military service and started working.
Over the years, I worked in various jobs and positions. I have been a locksmith, a capital construction technician for large industrial complexes, a taxi driver, a area sales manager of a branch of a foreign manufacturing company, a municipal clerk, as well as a worker in a Korean automotive manufacturing plant and a security man for one of the country's largest IT distributors.

When I was young, photography wasn't considered a serious occupation that could make a good living. It was the same with every other art form. Becoming a photographer was the "last chance" for those who didn't want to study or weren't good at school. The general opinion was that anyone could take photographs. I grew up during the era of socialism in a city heavily marked by industrialisation. Photography became "just" a hobby for me.

Even today photography is not my source of income, although it is my passion and gives my life a certain meaning. I love those moments when I forget myself and blend in with everything. And then I just try to capture the beauty I find.
